What Is Structured Data (Schema Markup)?

Structured data is standardized code (usually JSON-LD using Schema.org vocabulary) that helps search engines understand page content and enables rich results.

Structured data is machine-readable markup added to a page that labels its content in a standardized vocabulary — most commonly Schema.org types expressed as JSON-LD. It tells search engines explicitly that a page contains a recipe, product, FAQ, review, event or organization.

Its main payoff is eligibility for rich results: star ratings, FAQ dropdowns, breadcrumbs, sitelinks and other enhanced listings that increase visibility and click-through rate on the SERP.
