What Is TDEE (Total Daily Energy Expenditure)?

TDEE is the total calories you burn per day — your BMR multiplied by an activity factor — and the baseline for weight goals.

Total Daily Energy Expenditure (TDEE) is the complete number of calories burned in 24 hours: basal metabolism plus digestion plus all movement, from workouts to walking to fidgeting. It is estimated by multiplying BMR by an activity factor from 1.2 (sedentary) to about 1.9 (very active).

TDEE is the pivot point for every body-weight goal: eat at TDEE to maintain, roughly 500 below to lose about half a kilogram per week, or 250–500 above (with training) to build muscle.
